Unlike humans, plants can reproduce through asexual mode of reproduction also. One of the methods of asexual mode of reproduction is vegetative reproduction. It occurs via root, stem and leaves.
Examples: Tuber of potato, the rhizome of ginger.
There are two types of vegetative propagation,
(I) Natural
(II) Artificial
The advantages of vegetative propagation are:
- It helps in saving money and time as the plants grow faster and have higher chances of reaching maturity.
- The plants can be grown commercially as the plants produced are a clone of the parent .
- It helps within the preservation of helpful parent characters within the next generation.
- The tactic is used for plants which might be simply grownup in gardens because of their little size.
- The positive features of the parent plant can be preserved as the offspring is a copy of the parent.
- It offers multiple scientific opportunities.
