Question: Write the objectives of classification of plants....

Write the objectives of classification of plants.

Explanation

Solution

Classification is the process by which anything is grouped into convenient categories based on some easily observable characters.

Complete answer:

The earliest system of classification used only to grow superficial morphological characters which are based mainly on vegetative characters or the Androecium structure.Such systems were artificial which separated the closer related species since they were based on a few characteristics.
Natural system of classification was developed according to which natural affinities among the organisms were considered , not only the external features but also internal features were considered. >Such classification of flowering plants was given by George Bentham and Joseph Dalton Hooker.Due to which this system of classification is known as the Bentham and Hooker system of classification.

Objectives of classification of plants are as following :

As there are millions of plants and animals found in the world to study them we need to classify them into different groups.
As by classifications we recognise groups such as plants or animals. The moment we use any of these terms we associate certain characters with the organism in the group which are according to classification.
Classification also arranges plants to different kinds according to the scheme of classification or in orderly arrangement.
So according to the classification plants will be placed in different groups such as species , genus , Family , Order , Class , Division etc.

Note: Based on the characteristics , all living organisms can be classified into different taxa. This process of classification is called taxonomy. The process characterization , identification , classification and nomenclature are the processes that are basic to taxonomy.
