G-6-PD deficiency is a genetic abnormality that abbreviates as Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. This deficiency affects males very often which occurs due to an inadequate amount of enzyme (protein) called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) in the blood. This is a very important enzyme (or protein) that helps to regulate various biochemical reactions in the human body.
G6PD are responsible to keep red blood cells healthy in order to live a normal life span by functioning properly. If the blood in the body lacks G6PD, then red blood cells break apart prematurely. The quick loss of red blood cells over a short span of time resulting in destruction of red blood cells called hemolysis. In rare cases, G6PD deficiency may eventually lead to hemolytic anemia.
When red blood cells keep on destroying quickly then such condition results in lack of oxygen flow to the organs and tissues. The development of chronic hemolytic anemia in the body can cause fatigue, dizziness, yellowing of the skin and eyes, shortness of breath and other symptoms.

Note: For people with G6PD deficiency, there are three main reasons that triggers the early destruction of red blood cells. This condition eventually leads to cause hemolytic anemia which happens due to exposure of certain foods, infections or by certain medications such as:
-antimalarials, a type of drug which used to prevent and treat malaria
-fava beans which is also known as broad beans and certain other legumes
-aspirin, a drug used for illness due to bacterial and viral infections
-some painkillers and antibiotics to relieve fever, pain, and swelling
