Write the energy transformation in the following
(A) Dynamo
(B) Solar Cell

Explanation

Solution

Hint
To answer this question, we have to see the basic functionality of each of the devices given in the question. From there we can write the required energy transformation. Both the dynamo and the solar cell are used in modern technology.

Complete step by step answer
(i) Dynamo – A dynamo is a device which is used to generate electricity using mechanical energy. It consists of a coil which is subjected to a constant magnetic field. Then, due to the mechanical energy supplied to the coil, the coil rotates and so the magnetic flux through the coil changes. According to Faraday's law, an emf is induced in the coil because of this changing magnetic flux.
Hence, in a dynamo mechanical energy is transformed to electrical energy.
(ii) Solar Cell – It is a device which is made up of a semiconductor, usually Silicon. It has a junction diode, on which the sunlight falls and the solar energy of the sun generates electron-hole pairs within the diode. These electron-hole pairs act as charge carriers and so conduct the electricity. So, basically the solar energy is converted to electrical energy.
Hence, in a solar cell solar energy is transformed to electrical energy.

Note
The dynamo is used to generate low DC voltage in the low power electrical systems. In ancient times, they were driven by steam engines to generate electrical energy for industrial and domestic purposes.
The solar cells are used to provide power to the space vehicles (telescopes, satellites etc). They are used on a large scale, nowadays, in road vehicles too, as these days we prefer renewable sources of energy. The solar cells are a very good alternative to the expensive fuel sources, as they provide power in a very reliable and economical way.
