Additional information: During systole when the heart pumps blood around the body, the pressure on the vessels increases. This is known as systolic pressure. According to the American Heart Association, our heartbeats 60-100 times per minute. While measuring the blood pressure, the upper number in the reading represents the systolic pressure and lower number represent the diastolic pressure. The normal blood pressure in a healthy human is less than 120 systolic and 80 diastolic.
