Write in detail the ill effects of air pollution.
Solution
Air pollution is a mixture of harmful solid particles and gases in the air. Common air pollutants include car emissions, dust, pollen and mold spores, chemicals from factories, etc.
Complete answer:
Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air. Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen and mold spores may be suspended as particles.
It can also be described as physical, biological or chemical changes in the air. Air is made up of gases, but when the concentration of these gases increases or decreases it can be harmful for the living organisms.
The different ill effects of air pollution are:
1. Global warming - The amount of greenhouse gases which is being emitted is at peak levels which has led to an increase in the temperature of Earth and this is known as global warming.
2. Acid rain - Burning of fossil fuels releases gases like sulphur oxides and nitrogen oxides in the air which combine with air and come down in the form of rain which damages human, plant and animal life.
3. Ozone layer depletion - With high level release of CFCs, HCFCs and halogens the deltin of ozone layer has increased thereby the harmful UV rays are falling directly on to the skin and causing different kinds of skin diseases and cancer.
4. Diseases - Because of air pollution several respiratory diseases and heart disorders have been commonly seen in humans. Past few decades, the number of asthma, lung cancer cases have increased rapidly.
Note: The different ways to control air pollution is,
- Try using public transports for farer distances and also encourage carpooling.
- By minimising the use of fire and fire products.
- Industries must treat the air before letting it out completely into the atmosphere and this can be done with the use of filters.
- Planting more and more trees and also preventing deforestation.
