Question
Question: Write about the female reproductive system....
Write about the female reproductive system.
Solution
The female reproductive system comprises the organs and the glands which facilitate the reproduction. The primary function of the female reproductive system is to produce egg or ova which fertilises with the male gametes. In humans, the fertilisation is internal and the embryo develops into a foetus inside the reproductive organ.
Complete answer:
The female reproductive system in humans is a very complex organ which is made up of both internal and external parts.
The external parts lie outside the body. They are
1)Labia majora which protects the external parts of the reproductive system.
2)Labia minora which is a lip like structure surrounding the vagina and urethra.
3)Clitoris which is a small sensitive part.
The function of external parts is to allow the sperm to enter into the body and also prevent the internal organs from microbial infection.
The Internal Parts are:
1)Vagina- It is known as the birth canal. It joins the cervix to outside of the body.
2)Ovaries- A pair of two ovaries are present in the female system which produces egg or ova. 3)An ovum is released in a month. It also produces hormones that are necessary for reproduction.
Fallopian tube- It is a tube-like structure which connects the ovary to the uterus. The fallopian tube is the site of fertilisation of the sperm and the egg. The fertilised egg then moves to the uterus for implantation.
Uterus- It is a pear- shaped organ which is the site where the foetus develops until it completes its gestation. The mouth of the uterus is called cervix. The child birth takes place when the uterus contracts, facilitating the foetus to be delivered outside.
Note: The hormones of the female reproductive system are-
Estrogen- It is released during puberty and it functions in developing secondary sexual characters and development of reproductive organs.
Progesterone- It facilitates egg production and reduces the uterine contraction.
Prolactin- It is the hormone that facilitates the production of milk by the mammary gland.
