Question
Question: Write a short note on the retina....
Write a short note on the retina.
Solution
The retina is a thin layer of cells or tissues that cover the back of the eye on the inside surface of the eye. It is one of the main parts of the eye as it performs a major function of receiving light.
Complete answer:
Retina, a layer made of nervous tissue that covers the inside of the back of almost 70% of the eyeball. That is responsible for the receiving of the light and due to which vision occurs in species. The retina is actually the part or extension of the brain from the neural tissue and connected to the brain by the help of optic nerve.
There are different types of cells present in the retina which consist of mainly rods and cons. These two types of cells are light sensitive cells and are called photoreceptor cells. Cones are usually more prominent in humans for more vision and color distinction. Rods are usually prominent in nocturnal animals and provide night vision to humans.
Working of retina: Retina works by the following process, when light enters eye, it passes first through the cornea and the lens and is refracted, focusing on image formation on the retina and then photoreceptors cells that are cons and rods cells the light sensitive cells helps in triggering nerve impulses.
Additional information:
An eye forms a two dimensional image on the retina which translates that image of two dimensions into electric impulses to the brain to create a visual effect.
Note: Always explain the working principle of organs present in the human body. Through working principle only one can define the structural, functional, importance of the organ. As in this case retina forms the completely same function as the film or the image sensor in a camera.
