Respiration is basically the release of energy from the food that we intake. The energy so released is useful for all the metabolic activities which are essential for the human body in order to function efficiently. The reaction taking place is represented as follows-

Here, as you can see glucose, which is a form of carbohydrate, is oxidized to form carbon dioxide, water along with the release of energy. Hence, Respiration is also considered as an exothermic reaction as it associated with the release of energy. The energy that is released usually in the form of heat. On the other hand, in an endothermic reaction, the energy is generally absorbed as heat.
