Why do we call our heart myogenic?

Blood is the fluid in our body which passes the nutrients and oxygen to our body. The heart pumps the blood through the aorta which is the biggest artery in our system. The blood passes through the pulmonary arteries to the lungs to oxygenate it. The various movements in the heart cause the blood to leave the heart.

The sinoatrial node has a unique feature of causing contractions, thus controlling the heartbeat. This is the reason why the heart is called the pacemaker. As the contractions originate naturally from the heart and are initiated in the SA node, thus it is called myogenic. The heart of vertebrates and mollusks is only called myogenic.

Note: The average heart size is about the fist of an adult. It beats about 115000 times a day. 2000 gallons of blood are pumped almost daily. A heart can continue to beat even if it is in the body. An electrical system controls the rhythm of the body.
