Why do desert snakes burrow deep into the sand during the day?

The desert has sand which gets heated up in the scorching sunlight during the daytime. Due to the lack of vegetation, there is no protection from the sunlight. The sand on the surface remains very hot during, so to get production from such heat, the snake burrows deep and remains there.

During the nighttime, the sand releases all the absorbed heat and cools down to a very low temperature. Such fluctuation of temperature is hard to handle. In deep sand, the effect of temperature is not affecting the snakes that much.

Hence, to adapt to the fluctuating temperature of dessert, snakes burrow deep in the sand.During the daytime, it's for the protection from heat and during night time it’s for the protection from cold.
