Within the 4th century BC the Greek philosopher Aristotle travelled to Lesvos, an island in the Aegean teeming, then as now, full of wildlife. His fascination with what he found there, and his painstaking study of it, led to the birth of a new science called Biology. Biology is one of the three major branches of natural science and biology is the study of life, living things and the evolution of life. Living things like animals, plants, fungi, various microorganisms etc. It is divided into various kingdoms like Plantae, monera, protista, fungi and animals. These kingdoms are further divided into class, subclass, order, genus, species etc. It involves the study of both plants and animals involving microorganisms i.e botany and zoology.

This branch of science is related to the study of life and its various processes related to it. He founded the Lyceum, the Peripatetic school of philosophy, and the Aristotelian tradition. His writings are done in many subjects including physics, biology, zoology, logic, ethics, aesthetics, poetry, theatre, music, rhetoric, metaphysics, linguistics, economics, politics, meteorology, psychology, geology etc.
