Question
Question: Which of the formula is for chlorophyll II? A. \( {C_{55}}{H_{70}}Mg{N_4}{O_6} \) B. \( {C_{55}...
Which of the formula is for chlorophyll II?
A. C55H70MgN4O6
B. C55H72MgN4O5
C. C55H72MgN4O6
D. C54H70MgN4O5
Solution
Hint : chloroplasts are a type of plastid, a round, oval or disk-shaped body that is involved in the synthesis and storage of foodstuffs. Chloroplasts can be differentiated from other plastids present, with the green colour.
formula is C55H70MgN4O6
Complete Step By Step Answer:
Additional note: This green colour is a result of the presence of two pigments called chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. Basically, these pigments have the function of absorbing light energy for the process of photosynthesis. Other pigments such as xanthophyll, carotenoids are also present in chloroplast and they are called accessory pigments. These help in trapping solar energy and they pass this energy to chlorophyll. Chlorophyll b helps plants in photosynthesis by absorbing light. They have a carbonyl group, which makes them more soluble in polar solvents than the chlorophyll a. Its colour is green and it primarily absorbs blue light.
In plants which are found on lands, they have light harvesting systems which have light harvesting antennae around photosystem II. They contain a majority of chlorophyll b. Hence, if we talk about the shade adapted chloroplasts, the majority of increase ratio which is photosystem II to photosystem I is occupied by chlorophyll b to chlorophyll a.
Note :
If there is an increase in chlorophyll b then there will be an increase in the range of wavelengths absorbed by the shade chloroplasts. In the biosynthetic pathway, the chlorophyll b utilises a variety of enzymes. It is in most plants, driven from glutamate .
