Which of the following isomerism can be exhibited by the given compounds?

A. Tautomerism
B. Optical isomerism
C. Geometrical isomerism
D. Geometrical and optical isomerism

Explanation

Solution

Hint : The isomerism is based on characteristics of the types of structures involved and the association of the main chain of carbon. There can be isomers based on differences in the planes in which residues are present in the chemical structure as well.

Complete Step By Step Answer:
The given organic compound as shown here does not have any tautomeric functional groups. This is why the chances of tautomerism are not observed and it is practically impossible. But there is a chance of optical isomerism to be present if the compounds have any chiral carbon in the structure. The chiral carbon is the specific carbon atom with which all the four bonds formed have a different type of residue associated with them. Such chiral carbon has the chance of having two optical isomers which are d-isomer and l-isomer. Here the chiral carbon is the second carbon associated with a carboxyl group on one side, hydrogen forming the other bond and a methyl group as the third bond. The fourth association forms the entire extended chain structure. This is why due to the chiral carbon there can be two types of optical isomers possible. But geometrical isomerism is not possible like that of the cis-isomer and trans-isomer. This is because on one side of the C=CC = C there are two methyl residues, which is why the formation of these two isomers is not possible.

Note :
The isomerism depends on the type of residues which are in association with the main chain residue. There are some isomers based on the functional group as well as the bonded structure between the carbon residues.
