An acid is any hydrogen-containing substance that is capable of donating a proton to another substance. Moreover, acidic substances are usually identified by their sour taste and they are known to turn blue litmus red. Now there are different definitions of acids according to different theories. According to Lowry- Bronsted definition, acid is a proton donor whereas according to Lewis definition, acids are molecules or ions which are capable of coordinating with unshared electron pairs.
Now, due to overproduction of acids, we feel irritation in the stomach which causes pain. This sometimes leads to ulcers in the stomach. So, to cure acidity, we use antacids.
