Runners have long and thin intemodes and branches creep over the surface of soil. Such branches develop adventitious roots at nodes on lower side. Scaly leaves are present on nodes, from the axil of which arise aerial branches. When long branches break up by any method they form new plants. In this way large number of new plants are formed, e.g., Doob grass, Oxalis, Hydrocotyle.
