Which of the following is renewable source of energy
A. Nuclear fuel
B. Natural gas
C. Fossil fuel
D. Geothermal energy

Explanation

Solution

Renewable sources energy is the sources of energy which comes from natural sources and are available in huge amounts and can be constantly replenished. Whereas non-renewable sources are the sources that cannot be replaced by any human means and will one day perish from the earth.

Complete step by step answer:
Nuclear fuel: Nuclear fuels use the process of fission to create a huge amount of energy. Nuclear fuels such as Uranium, Plutonium are naturally unstable. and they decay into lighter nuclei to become stable. But when nuclear fuel decay they emit radiation. Nuclear energy is obtained from a nuclear reactor. The atoms inside a nucleus are held together by a strong force called nuclear force. When a neutron inside a nuclear reactor bombarded to nuclear fuel, causing the splitting of fuel. Which releases a huge amount of energy. This energy is used to heat water and the stream of water used to rotate the turbine which produces electricity.
But the amount of nuclear fuel is constant on the earth’s surface. And when nuclear fuels are not available to us we cannot create them so nuclear fuel is a non-renewable source of energy.
Natural gas: Natural gas is a product of decomposed organic matter, typically from ancient marine microorganisms decomposed over 550 million years. This organic matter is mixed with mud, sand, etc. on the seafloor and buried in the sand. They sealed off in an oxygen-free environment and were exposed to an extreme amount of heat and pressure to produce hydrocarbons. The lightest of these hydrocarbons in normal conditions is methane and found in a gaseous state. We drill to the place where natural gas is found and collected.
The natural gas reserve is constant so over the usage its amount decreases. And its production is not possible so it is a non-renewable source of energy.
Like natural gas fossil fuel is formed inside the earth’s surface. When plants are buried over millions of years inside the earth’s surface under extreme temperature and pressure they become fossil fuel. Once fossil fuel is all used it cannot be created. So it is also a non-renewable source of energy.
Geothermal energy: it is the heat derived from the earth’s core. When groundwater comes in contact with earth’s lava it becomes hot. And hot water carried to earth.
Geothermal energy is a renewable source of energy because it is constantly replenished.

So, the correct answer is “Option D”.

Note: Both fossil fuel and natural gas produced below the earth’s surface. The underground plankton becomes natural gas and plants become fossil fuel. Nuclear fuels give the most amount of energy but it is highly dangerous. Debris of nuclear fuels emits radiation for hundreds and thousands of years. So our best choice now is a renewable source of energy.
