Question
Biology Question on human nervous system
Which of the following is purely motor cranial nerve?
A
olfactory
B
optic
C
abducens
D
vagus
Answer
abducens
Explanation
Solution
Purely motor cranial nerves are those efferent nerves which contain only motor nerve fibres and connect effectors (muscles & glands) to the CNS. Eg. oculomotor, trochlear, abducens, accessory spinal & hypoglossal cranial nerves. Olfactory & optic are purely sensory cranial nerves (these nerves have only sensory nerves fibres which connect only receptor organs to CNS). Vagus is a mixed cranial nerve having both sensory & motor nerve fibres.
