Which of the following functions is performed by collecting tubules of Kidney?
A. In the maintenance of pH and ionic balance of the blood by secretion of H+ and K+ ions.
B. Maintenance of pH of blood and removal of Na+ and K+ ions
C. Absorption of glucose and ammonia from the blood
D. None of above
Solution
Collecting tubules is also called as the collecting duct of the kidney. This is a tube-like structure which transports urine from the nephrons to the pelvis and ureter. It absorbs many ions and also reabsorbs the water also. The tubule in the kidney has three types. They are proximal convoluted tubule, distal convoluted tubule, collecting tubule. Kidney tubules are also called nephrons. It is used in the urine formation by secretion without affecting the electrolyte balance.
Complete answer:
Option A In the maintenance of pH and ionic balance of the blood by secretion of H+ and K+ ions: Tubule of the kidney is used to secrete the H+ and K+ ions by maintained the pH and ionic balance in human body. It is done either by active or passive transport. In the first tubule absorbs the amino acids, glucose, lactate and phosphate. By removing the bi carbonate, it absorbs the sodium, potassium ions. This tubule only absorbs the glucose contained in the convolution.
Option A is the correct answer.
Option B Maintenance of pH of blood and removal of Na+ and K+ ions: Maintenance of pH level of blood is jotting the function of the kidney. And also, kidney renal tubule absorbs the Na+ and K+ ions. Lungs are used to control the pH level in the body by removing carbon dioxide in the human body by breathing.
Option B is incorrect.
Option C Absorption of glucose and ammonia from the blood: Glucose and ammonia are reabsorbed by the kidney tubule by maintaining the homeostatic plasma concentration. Acid balance is done by the action of the kidney and lungs. Renal tubule reabsorbs the important ions like H+, K+ ions, and glucose in the last stage of urine formation.
Option C is incorrect.
Option D None of the above: Renal capsule absorbs and reabsorbs the ions without affecting the pH level of the body.
Option D is incorrect.
Hence, Option A is the correct answer.
Note:
Important duty of the kidney is to filter the urine by absorbing some ions and removing some ions. Renal tubule is used to remove the water and waste from the blood into glomerulus. Essential’s ions in the filtered convolution are absorbed for regulating levels in the plasma by the amount of reabsorbing things. At the proximal tubule the large amount of reabsorption takes place. Over 70% of filtration is done here. Glucose is reabsorbed by the proximal tubule by the ion cotransport.
