Question: Which of the following are the greenhouse gases ? A.\(C{O_2},C{H_4},{N_2}O\) and \({O_3}\) B.\(...
Which of the following are the greenhouse gases ?
A.CO2,CH4,N2O and O3
B.CO2 , Octane , Chlorine , Nitrogen
C.Methane , Oxygen , Helium , Neon
D.None of these
Solution
Greenhouse gases are called so because they absorb heat . They are those which are emitted from fossil fuels , petroleum , transportation , electricity and many other commercial and agricultural sources .
Complete step by step answer:
Greenhouse effect is a phenomena by which the radiation of a planet, say earth, warms it's surface. It is an important phenomena so as to keep the earth's surface warm otherwise it could reach upto an average temperature of −15∘C . This phenomena is possible with the help of certain gases known as greenhouse gases.
They are those which trap heat . These gases act as a blanket on the earth's surface and let the sunlight pass onto the earth but prevent the heat from entering into the earth . In this way they do not let the warmth escape from the surface of earth.
They absorb and emit energy within the infrared range.
The primary greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere are÷
carbon dioxide (CO2)
water vapour (H2O)
methane (CH4)
nitrous oxide (N2O)
ozone (O3)
Other gases are CFCs and HFCs , that is chlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbons respectively .
Therefore option A is correct.
Note:
The greenhouse gases are a positive point for the sustenance of life on earth but nowadays studies show that due to human activities the concentration of these gases is increasing rapidly to higher levels that can be harmful for the earth's atmosphere.
