: The charge on an electron was found by millikan’s oil drop method. Oil drops in the form of mist produced by an atomizer were allowed to pass through a chamber with ionized air. The electrical charge on these oil droplets was acquired by collisions with gaseous ions. By carefully measuring the effects of an electrical field strength on the motion of oil droplets, millikan measured the charge on the droplet.
