A typical human sperm consists of head, neck middle piece and tail. [a] Head: It is enlarged end of sperm which contain nucleus. The acrosome containing hydrolytic enzymes is formed by head. [b] Neck: The neck contains the proximal centriole towards the nucleus which plays a role in the cleavage of zygote and the distal centriole which gives rise to axial filament. [c] Middle piece: It contains the mitochondria coiled round the axial filament called mitochondrial spiral which provide energy to moving sperm. [d] Tail: The sperms swims about by its tail in a fluid medium.
