Question: Which Blood Group has more Immunity?...

Which Blood Group has more Immunity?

Explanation

Solution

In 19301930 Dr. Karl Landsteiner won the Nobel Prize for developing the ABO Blood Group System. The ABO System is the most known process or system to classify the blood groups.
It is very important to know the blood group of a person to give or receive blood. But some research is telling that knowing our blood group type could alert us to certain types of autoimmune diseases that one more easily can develop like Hashimoto’s disease or rheumatoid arthritis.

Complete Explanation:
The blood group of a person is determined by the antigens found in their blood. These antigens are proteins that are found on the red blood cell.
So, the Blood Type is classified as –
Group A : Containing ‘A’ antigens
Group B : Containing ‘B’ antigens
Group O : Doesn’t contain antigens, neither ‘A’ nor ‘B’
Group AB : Containing ‘A’ and ‘B’ antigens
Every blood group has two types ‘Positive’ and ‘Negative’, and that is determined by the presence of another antigen called Rh Factor or Rhesus Factor.
People who have Rh factors on the surface of their RBC are called Rhesus Positive (Rh+) and People who haven’t Rh factors on the surface of their RBC are called Rhesus Negative (Rh-).
Connection between Blood groups and Autoimmune Diseases :
A person develops a condition when the immune system attacks healthy cells of his/her body, then this condition is called Autoimmune disease. The reason behind the development of autoimmune disease in some people is still not clear. But genetics and environmental factors could be the reason behind it.
Some autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS) are more common in people with a heredity of the disease. According to the research, women are almost twice as likely as men to develop an autoimmune disease.
Research tells us that there is evidence that some autoimmune diseases are more common in certain types of blood group.

Here is a table of Autoimmune disease and its relatively effected blood type:

ConditionSubtypeBlood type with extra risk factor
Hashimoto’s disease-Type O
Diabetes-Type A or Type B
Multiple sclerosis (MS)-Type A+ and Type B+
Rheumatic diseasesSpondyloarthropathyBechet’s diseaseconnective tissue diseaseUndifferentiatedrheumatoid arthritisVasculitisType A
Rheumatoid diseasesystemic sclerosisfamilial Mediterranean feverSjogren’s syndromeType B
Alopecia areata-Rh+ type people
LupusSystemic lupus erythematosusPossible blood type A and B

As this is an ongoing research process and Researchers are not sure about the relation between the autoimmune diseases and our blood group types, we can’t make a conclusion that a certain type of blood group has the most powerful immunity system.

Note :
According to the researchers it is still not clear why some people develop autoimmune diseases but the others don’t. Some researchers thought that the genetics and environmental factors play a major role behind developing a lot of conditions.
Studies suggest that some autoimmune diseases are more common in some certain types of blood group holding people. But we need more comprehensive studies to understand and establish it in a better and steady way.
