What precautions should be taken during the use of electricity? (Write any six points).
Solution
Electricity may be defined as a fundamental form of energy that is formed by the flow of charges (Electrons).
There are two types of Electricity:
(1) Static Electricity
(2) Current Electricity.
Static Electricity is made by rubbing together two or more objects and making friction in between them, while Current electricity is formed by the flow of electric charge across an electrical field.
Complete step by step answer:
The followings are the precautions that we should take care of during the use of electricity –
(i) Use insulated tools whenever you are working with electrical instruments.
(ii) Always take care while soldering your circuit boards. Always Wear goggles and keep yourself away from the fumes so produced. Keep the soldering iron in its stand when not in use.
(iii) Always use a Fuse or circuit breaker of proper rating to avoid damage from high voltage.
(iv) Never use the ladder made up of conducting metals like aluminum or iron. Always use a ladder made up of dry wood.
(v) Never use water to put off fire due to a short circuit as normal water (not distilled) is a good conductor of electricity.
(vi) Try to wear proper gloves of insulating materials like rubber during work with electric circuits or instruments.
Note:
Keep in mind that pure or distilled water is a poor conductor of electricity whereas the normal tap water is a good conductor of electricity because in distilled water there are no dissolved salts whereas in normal water there are many dissolved salts present which can produce metal ions that can conduct electricity. Therefore while putting off the fire due to the short circuit never use water.
