Question

Question: What organelles release energy?...

What organelles release energy?

Explanation

Solution

Energy production is one of the most important tasks of cells. Each cell has several individually functioning organelles that carries out basic metabolic processes of the body.

Complete answer:
Mitochondria is a cell organelle that is involved in the energy production task of cells. It is common to both plant and animal cells. It is also called the powerhouse of the cell as it carries out the respiration process which is an energy producing cycle for a living body.
Respiration is a process by which all living organisms produce energy by using stored glucose or sugar inside the cells. This glucose uses oxygen supplied by blood at the time of breathing and thus produces ATPs that is, energy currencies of the cell. In this process, Carbon dioxide and water vapour are produced as end products which is then transported through deoxygenated blood and eventually is carried out of the body in exhalation process of breathing.
Therefore, we can say that respiration and breathing are two different processes that overlap each other in terms of functioning such that one completes the other. As the body inhales (in breathing) it takes in Oxygen that is transported through blood to mitochondrias whereas mitochondrias give back Carbon dioxide that is thrown out of the body through exhalation process of breathing. This complete process takes place in mitochondrias of each cell that manufactures these ATPs and thus helps the body in conducting various metabolic processes. It is a very important process as all bodily functions require energy which can be manufactured only by this process.

Note:
The kind of energy production process that uses oxygen for breaking down glucose or sugar into ATPs is called aerobic respiration whereas that taking place in the absence of oxygen is called anaerobic respiration.
