Question: What is the relationship between oxygen use and heat production?...
What is the relationship between oxygen use and heat production?
Solution
The oxygen which is used during the reaction helps in the release of the energy from the nutrients in the form of the heat so that it can be used in other processes. Now with the help of this you can easily answer the given statement accordingly.
Complete answer:
The use of the oxygen during the reaction and simultaneously the production of the heart are correlated. Let us take the example of the combustion reactions i.e. those reactions in which heat is released when there is reaction between the oxygen and other substances.
In simple words, we can say that when oxygen is used only then the heat evolves in the reaction and if there is no oxygen involved during the reaction, no heat will evolve during the reaction.
Now consider the reaction, in which the oxygen is the limiting reagent i.e. it is completely used in the reaction while the other reactant is still present. But in spite of that, no reaction will occur because there is lack of oxygen and no more heat will be produced.
On the contrary if there is excess amount of oxygen then the reaction will continue to proceed till the other reactants are completely used up in the reaction and thus, the heat will be produced throughout the reaction.
So, thus, from the above we come to know that the use of oxygen and heat production are related to each other and if there is no oxygen heat will be produced in the reaction.
Note:
Oxygen helps in the release of energy from various substances like carbohydrates, nutrients etc. in the form of heat energy which is further used to carry on the various metabolic processes. The more oxygen, the faster is the reaction and more is the production of heat.
