This is a legally protected area by the Government where Human intervention is strictly prohibited by the law.
It is the innermost untroubled ecosystem.
The information from these areas helps to acquire the sustainability of activities or continuity of environmental quality or environmental balance in the surrounding areas.
Importance of Biosphere Reserves -
Biosphere reserves conserve the ecosystems, species, genetic diversities, and landscapes without making any change to the inhabitants.
The sustainable developments including economic, cultural, social and economic developments are ensured by the Biosphere reserves.
The biosphere reserves restore any damage that happens to the ecosystems and habitats.
These Biosphere reserve areas provide a lot of information to the researchers on how to restore, conserve, and develop the ecosystem. The researchers can find ways to recreate landscapes that have been affected or damaged by human activities.

There are Biosphere Reserves in India, including Nilgiri, Sundarban, Nanda Devi, Great Nicobar etc.
There are eighteen biosphere reserves that are registered in the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Programme list. Among them twelve biosphere reserves are in India.
Nilgiri is the firstly declared as a Biosphere Reserve in India and the Great Nicobar is the lastly declared biosphere reserve of India.
