Evolution is of three types divergent, convergent and parallel evolution.
Divergent evolution: as the name suggests divergent, when two species diverge, they form two different species. These divergences might occur due to geographical barriers or reproductive barriers. On a larger scale we can see all organisms to be developed from a single cell. Whereas on a smaller scale divergence can be observed in humans and apes.
Convergent evolution: evolution where two completely different species share common analogous traits because of shared habitat or environment. For example, wings of a bird and wings of an insect.
Parallel Evolution: this occurs when two organisms evolve independently from each other but they look very similar. It usually occurs between unrelated species and species that do not occupy the same niche.

Divergent evolution gives rise to homologous organs in two organisms that have evolved from the same ancestor but perform different functions. Convergent evolution gives rise to analogous organs that are organs performing the same function but originate from different ancestors.
