Question: What is osmolarity of body fluids?...

What is osmolarity of body fluids?

Explanation

Solution

As we know that human beings are creatures that are mainly composed of water. This fluid is the essence of life and the aqueous base solution in which all essential biochemical processes occur due to which life exists. Also fluid is always in flux by a variety of regulatory mechanisms to maintain appropriate concentrations throughout the various compartments of the body.

Complete answer:
Let us discuss about body fluids followed by their osmolarity as follows:-
-We human beings are mainly composed of water. This fluid is the essence of life and the aqueous base solution in which all essential biochemical processes occur due to which life exists. Also fluid is always in flux by a variety of regulatory mechanisms or processes to maintain appropriate concentrations throughout the various compartments of the body.
-Osmolarity: It is an estimation of the osmolar concentration of plasma and is directly proportional to the number of particles in one litre of solution. It is expressed as millimoles/L and this is what is used when a calculated value is derived.
-It also changes depending on the temperature of the liquid. For an example: if we dissolve 100 gram of salt in 1 kilogram of water, the osmolarity will decrease very slightly as the liquid warms up and this because the same weight of water takes up slightly more room as it warms up (because it expands). As osmolarity changes with temperature, the term osmolarity is well preferred in medicine.

Note:
-We should also remember that osmolality of a fluid is a measure of the number of particles in one kilogram of the liquid that they are dissolved in. Also the number of particles is measured in millimoles as it is a measurement widely used in chemistry.
