Diamond is a gem found on earth’s crust; actually, an allotrope of carbon which is purely made up of the same and is present in the crystalline form in nature.
It is the hardest substance known till date and the most popular gemstone which is available at high costs.

Diamond-
It is a unique member of the mineral kingdom due to its characteristic chemical composition and the crystal structure. It is an allotrope of carbon formed under much higher temperature and pressure. Some facts about the diamond are discussed as follows;
Homogenous and naturally occurring solid.
Tetrahedral structure full of linked carbons.
Present in the purest form consisting only of carbon bonds.
Actually, graphite and diamond are the allotropes of carbon but both are physically much different in appearance and thus the applications.
Thus chemically, diamond is carbon factually but not completely similar to that.

Note: Do note that the diamond is the only gem made of single element i.e. there is presence of 99.95% of carbon and 0.05% of other trace elements available which do not influence the chemistry of the diamond but do influence its shape and colour.
