What is called the statistical study of human population?
Solution
The term population means all organisms of the same group or species that inhabit a particular area and are capable of interbreeding. Population studies are important because they help us get an idea about the requirements of food, shelter, water and other basic amenities.
Complete answer: The statistical study of human population is known as Demography. This study is made with respect to their size, their structure and also their development. They can be of two types-the first one is formal demography that involves study and measurement of population processes while the second one is social demography which involves analysis of relationships between economic, cultural or biological processes that influence a population. Demographic data collection can be done by two methods- direct and indirect. One of the common methods of collecting direct data is known as census. This collection does not only count individuals but also collect information about families and households. They also sometimes collect data on migration, nationality, religion and citizenship. The second method which is the indirect method is concerned with collecting data where full data is not available which is the case in the developing world. They collect data based on a method called the sister method where the survey asks women about how many sisters they had and how many of them had children and estimate the entire population based on that.
Note: Demography today is of great importance and is being taught in many universities worldwide. By applying different demographic tools information about large populations can easily be obtained which is of great help to researchers today.
