What happens if the fallopian tubes are blocked?

Explanation

Solution

Hint:- Fallopian tubes is the part of female reproductive system .female reproductive system consists of ovaries,a duct system consisting of fallopian tube,a uterus ,a cervix and vagina.A pair of mammary gland and are accessory genital glands.

Complete answer:
Fallopian tubes or oviduct are ciliated, muscular, and tubular structure which extends from the periphery of each ovary to the uterus. Each oviduct is suspended by mesosalpinx and is differentiated into 3 parts:-
(1) Infundibulum - the part of the oviduct closer to the ovary is the funnel shaped infundibulum. The edges of the infundibulum impose finger-like projections called fimbriae . Fimbriae help in the collection of ovum after the ovulation infundibulum opens into the abdominal cavity by an operator ostium.
(2) Ampulla- the infundibulum leads to a wider part of the ovary duct called ampulla.
(3) Isthmus- it is the last and narrow path and narrow lumen that links to the uterus. The tube is involved in conduction of the ovum or zygote towards the uterus by peristalsis and ciliary action; it is also the site of fertilization. Fertilization occurs at the junction of ampulla and isthmus.
If there is any blockage in the fallopian tube there is no discharge of ovum outside the uterus during menstrual cycle, due to blockage sperm is not reached to fallopian tube as a result of which fertilization so not take place, if a fallopian tube is partially blocked, an egg may be able to be fertilized, but it may get stuck in the tube. This results in an ectopic pregnancy, which is a medical emergency. and also due to blockage women become infertile.

Note:- There are so many reasons for blockage of fallopian tube like cyst formation, scar tissue, pelvic adhesion and maybe infection.Cause of infection in fallopian tube is salpingitis due to bacterial infection.some other causes of salpingitis is sexually transmitted disease like gonorrhoea and chlamydia.
