Question
Biology Question on Transport in Plants
What happens during endosmosis ? Choose the correct answer from the following
Water molecules diffuse from lower water potential to higher water potential
Water molecules diffuse from higher water potential to lower water potential
Water molecules move from a solution towards pure water
Water molecules move from cell towards its exterior
Water molecules diffuse from higher water potential to lower water potential
Solution
Endosmosis is the net movement of water molecules from a region of higher to lower concentration through a differentially permeable membrane. It is essentially a type of diffusion but through a partially permeable membrane. In terms of water potential water moves from area of high i.e., less negative to area of low i.e. more negative water potential.
