What fraction of your body is water?
A. 1/4.
B. 2/3.
C. 1/2.
D. 1/3.

Explanation

Solution

The water content in the human body is the collective amount of the water present in the tissues, cells, blood, bones and elsewhere in the body which makes up the significant fraction of the body weight and volume. On an average, the adult human body contains between 60-65 percent water, up to 90 percent of their body weight is water.

Complete answer:
In Human Physiology, body water is broken down into the following compartments

Intracellular fluid – It is two-third of body water. It is fluid contained within cells. An average body of 72 kilograms, contains 40 litres of fluid, in which 25 litres is intracellular, which amounts to 62.5 percent by weight.
Extracellular fluid- It is one-third of body water. It is the fluid present in areas outside to the cells and thus known as the extracellular fluid. For a 40 litres of fluid present in the human body, about 15 litres is extracellular i.e., 37 percent of total fluid. This further divides into three part-
Plasma – It is one –fifth of total extracellular fluid. Plasma volume averages 3 litres or 20 percent.
Interstitial fluid – it is four fifths of extracellular fluid.
Transcellular fluid – it is the type of fluid that is present inside organs, for example gastrointestinal, cerebrospinal fluid, peritoneal fluids, and ocular fluids.

About two third of the average human body is made up of water, mostly present within the cells. The average adult human body consists of fifty to sixty percent of water. In infants, the percentage of water is much higher i.e., about seventy five to seventy eight percent.

Hence, the correct answer is option (B).

Note: In human physiology the
Brain and heart - 73 percent of water.
Lungs have about- 83 percent water.
Skin filled with- 64 percent of water.
Muscles and kidneys - 79 percent of water.
Bones consist of - 31 percent of water.
