What do you understand by the term ammonotelic, ureotelic and uricotelic animals?Give examples for each.

Explanation

Solution

The animals are classified based on their excretory products.Various mechanisms have emerged which gives way for many animal species to survive and adapt to any environment. The process of eliminating the waste from the body is called excretion.

Complete answer:
Ammonotelic animals:
Ammonia is a highly poisonous chemical and also water soluble in nature. When the waste product has ammonia in it,the process is called as ammonotelism.Species whose excretory product has ammonia in it is called ammonotelic animals.
Example:Aquatic animals such as fish, echinoderms and tadpoles of amphibians.

Ureotelic animals:
The process of excreting urea into the waste product is called ureotelism.Species who excrete urea into waste is called Ureotelic animals. The ammonia in the waste is converted to urea by the liver of animals and is sent back into the blood. The blood with urea is in turn filtered by the kidneys and is expelled out of the body.Urea is less toxic in nature than ammonia.
Example: Humans. We excrete urea through urine.

Uricotelic animals:
The process of removing the waste in the form of uric acid which is characterised by paste is called uricotelism.Species who excrete uric acid in their waste is called uricotelic animals.Uric acid is non soluble in water.
Example:Most of the birds, reptiles and insects fall under this category.

Note: Excretory products like co2co_2 H2oH_2o and carbohydrates are easily digested by the lungs through air and by kidneys in the form of urea and by skin in the form of sweat.
Other waste such as bile pigments and drugs are digested and removed by lungs.
