Question
Question: What do you understand by conservation?...
What do you understand by conservation?
Solution
Conservation is the practice for providing protection and care for such resources that are present in the threat of extension and requires preservation or must be used sustainably so that they can be preserved for the future generation.
Complete answer: Sustainable management practices are said to be conservation. Conservation can be defined as the protection provided to save the environment, resources and any other thing which helps to maintain the ecological balance and life on the earth. The conservation is broadly divided into two types such as ex-situ conservation and in-situ conservation on the bases of biodiversity.
1. Ex-situ conservation is the conservation of nature and natural resources in the controlled environment or in the laboratory, which is continuously monitored.
Example: Botanical garden (plant are preserved in the artificial garden), Zoological park (wild animal are protected in an artificial environment), Gene bank (maintain the viable stock of seeds)and Cryopreservation (conserves the germplasm or seed, are preserved under low temperature in liquid nitrogen).
2. In-situ conservation is the process of conservation of the whole ecosystem and biodiversity and their resources in their natural habitat by establishing the national park, wildlife park, hot spot, sanctuaries and biosphere reserves.
Example: National park (the government maintains it for the betterment of wildlife and the anthropogenic activity like cultivation, grazing and forestry are not allowed), Hot spot (this is the area where highly endemic species of plant and animal are present, and they are provided with protection in a protected area), Sanctuaries (it is the tract of land with or without water body, where animal takes as refuge without being hunted), Biosphere reserves (it is a large area which is marked for protection of wildlife, and it is divided into three zones such as core, buffer and transition zone, on the bases of activity allowed).
Note: Sustainable use of resources is also called conservation. The definition of sustainable development is to meet the need of present veneration which compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own need is called sustainable development.
