What do you mean by the word television? Explain the working system of television. Write the names of latest technologies and advanced quality television of the present era.
Solution
Television is an electronic device used to receive sound and images and transmit it to the screen. The working of a television is based on its basic concept. There are many different technologies used in televisions in the present era like OLED, UHD.
Complete step by step answer:
Television can be defined as an electronic device used to receive sound and images and transmit in monochrome (black and white) or color and in 2-D and 3-D. Through this device we are able to receive news, entertainment, sports etc.
Working of a Television:
Television is a three-part invention: first the TV camera that turns a picture and sound into a signal; next the TV transmitter that sends the signal through the air; and at last the TV receiver (the TV set in your home) that captures the signal and turns it back into picture and sound.
Figure: Shows the working of television
An antenna on the roof picks up radio signals from the transmitter. In satellite T.V the signal comes from satellite dish, mounted on walls. In cable T.V the signal comes via underground fiber-optic cable.
The incoming signal feeds into the antenna socket on the back of the TV.
The incoming signal of television is carrying images and sounds of more than one station. An electric circuit present inside the T.V selects only the station we want to see. Further, it splits the signal of this station into sound and image (video) information passing it separately to the circuit.
Now, the electron gun circuit splits the video part of the signal into separate red, blue, and green signals to drive the three electron guns present.
Further, the circuit fires three electron guns (one red, one blue, and one green) down a cathode-ray tube or CRT.
The electron beams pass through a ring of electromagnets. Here, the electromagnets steer the electron beams so they sweep back and forth across the screen, line by line.
At this stage, the electron beams pass through a grid of holes called a mask. It directs beams, so they hit exact places on the TV screen. The pattern of red, blue, and green dots builds up a colored picture.
Meanwhile, audio (sound) information from the incoming signal is passed to a separate audio circuit
The audio circuit drives the loudspeaker, so that it recreates the sound exactly in time with the moving picture.
Some of the latest technologies and advanced quality television of present era are:
4K
Ultra High Definition (UHD)
High dynamic range (HDR)
Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED)
Quantum dot Light Emitting Diode (QLED)
Additional Information:
Philo Farnsworth gave the first public demonstration of an all-electronic television system, using a live camera on 25th August 1934.
Note:
Televisions are harmful to eyes if watched for more time. The basic concept of working on televisions has a receiver, a transmitter and a screen display. Further we know that new technologies of television are improving in display quality, weight, and looks.
