Question: What do we need in order to see a shadow?...
What do we need in order to see a shadow?
Solution
Light is the one of the important things or phenomena which lets us see. Light enables us to see both types of objects i.e. transparent objects and opaque objects. Opaque objects do not allow the light to pass through them.
Complete step-by-step solution:
There are two types of objects in the world. One is transparent and the other is opaque. Transparent objects are those objects which let the light pass through them. Opaque objects are those which do not let the light pass through them.
Opaques objects can form a shadow in the presence of light. Opaque objects do not allow the light to pass through them. So, they form an image or shadow at the opposite side of the light source.
When light incidents on an opaque object, then a shadow is formed at the opposite side of the light source. During the day time. we can easily observe the shadow of an object. But in night time, when there is no light, we are unable to observe our shadow. In night time, a light source can make a shadow visible.
So, Opaque objects and a light source are the main requirements to see a shadow.
Additional Information: - A shadow may have different sizes and shapes. The shadow looks very small when the light source is far from the object. The shadow looks very big when the light source is near the object.
Note:- We can see through the transparent objects but we can’t see through the opaque objects. So, only opaque objects can provide a shadow. This shadow is always visible to the backside (opposite side) of the object.
