What are the two types of nerves? Write their functions.
Solution
A collection of neurons is known as the nerves and it can be damaged by the diabetes called neuropathy.
Complete answer:
The central nervous system consists of the brain and the spinal cord and it is the place for information processing and control. The peripheral nervous system contains all the nerves of the body connected with the central nervous system. The cell body of the neurons carry cell nucleus, dendrites which control the stimulation of the nerve. The axon which may be one or more in number provides the length of the nerve and the axon terminal helps in the transmission of nerve impulses to the other nerves. The nerves are located all over our body from our skin between the organs and to their centre- the brain. The peripheral nervous system surrounds as the subcategory of the autonomic nervous system which helps in the control of the function of involuntary movements such as movements of the heart, sweating etc.
The nerve fibres located in the peripheral nervous system are of two types: afferent nerves and efferent nerves. The afferent nerves are the nerves made up of the sensory neurons which help in transmitting nerve impulses from the tissues or organs to the central nervous systems. The different nerves are the nerves made up of the motor neurons and help in transmitting regulatory impulses from the central nervous system to the related peripheral tissue or organ.
Notes: The nerves related to afferent nerves are olfactory nerves, auditory nerves or acoustics nerves and the nerves related to efferent nerves are oculomotor nerves, trochlear nerves, spinal accessory nerves, hypoglossal nerves.
