What are the methods used by plants to get rid of excretory products?

Explanation

Solution

Plants need to excrete majorly carbon dioxide which is a gaseous excretory product of aerobic respiration. plants should excrete out the unwanted excretory products because retention of such substances may result in toxicity and even death of certain tissues.

Complete answer:
Plants excretes waste products by the following process-

  1. Plants consume water, however, there exists some proportion not utilized. The excess water is excreted by the process known as transpiration. It is the process by which the water moves through a plant by evaporating from exposed parts for eg- leaves, stems and flowers.
  2. Gaseous wastes such as carbon dioxide are eliminated through stomata. Carbon dioxide is a major product of aerobic respiration.
  3. Removes the exudates like resins and gums especially in old xylem tissue.
  4. Waste products are transported in the old leaves which are eliminated by the process of drooping or wilting.
  5. The oxygen which is the end product of the photosynthesis gets eliminated through stomata.
6)Some of the excretory products are stored in vacuoles.
  6. They also excrete some waste products into the soil around.
  7. Some are also excreted by petals, fruits and seeds.

Note:
Resins and gums are some by-products of plant metabolism and often are a result of injury to the bark or wood of certain plants but can occur as normal metabolites. Gums and tannins extracted from the plants are of great industrial use for humans.
