Question
Science Question on What Are Life Processes?
What are the differences between the transport of materials in xylem and phloem?
Answer
Xylem : a plant's vascular tissue, consists of tracheids, vessels, xylem fibers, and xylem parenchyma.
Phloem : a plant's vascular tissue, is made up of companion cells, sieve tube elements, phloem fibers, and phloem parenchyma.
So, the difference between transport of materials in xylem and phloem is :
| Transport of materials in xylem | Transport of materials in phloem |
|---|---|
| 1 | Xylem tissue helps in the transport of water and minerals. |
| 2 | Water is transported upwards from roots to all other plant parts. |
| 3 | Transport in the xylem occurs with the help of simple physical forces such as transpiration pull. |
