What are the control measures for the eradication of the mosquito population?

Explanation

Solution

Many animals which live with us can transmit diseases from sick people to healthy ones. These animals act as an intermediate and are known as vectors. Vectors are carriers of diseases or infections. Anopheles mosquitoes are the vectors of malarial fever.

Complete answer:
Many species of mosquitoes, the female, need highly nutritious food in the form of blood in order to be able to lay mature eggs. Mosquitoes feed on warm-blooded animals including us. In this way, they can transfer diseases from one person to another person.

There are various control measures for the reduction of mosquito population –
- By spraying on stagnant water which means some oil or kerosene poured on the water surface for making a thin film. The oil helps to kill the larvae and pupae.
- By eliminating breeding places or destroying the breeding places of mosquitoes.
- By spraying DDT and insecticides on the mosquito-dwelling places for destroying adult mosquitoes.
- The water should be covered properly which is stored in containers with the help of a lid for the prevention or entry of mosquitoes.
- Disposal of waste products or things by burying into the ground.
- Use of mosquito nets.
- By biological control.
- Periodic cleaning of water reservoirs or pools.

Note:
- Infectious diseases can be spread from an infected person to a healthy person in various ways. These diseases can be communicated therefore known as communicable diseases.
- Diseases spread through various modes like air-borne, water-borne, sexually transmitted, vectors, etc. if the microbes enter through mosquito bites, they may enter the liver and then to RBCs like malaria-causing microbes.
