What are the conditions for something to be called as matter?

Everything that is around us and the presence of which can be felt with the help of any of our five senses, i.e., sight, touch, smell, hearing, and the taste is called a matter.
This whole universe is made up of only two things i.e., matter and energy.
A few examples of matter are clothes, iron, gold, wood, milk, petrol, etc.
So, some of the conditions for something to be matter are:
The matter must occupy space.
They must possess mass.
Their presence must be felt by our senses.
They must be classified in either of the two parts:
Physical classification: Based on the physical state under the ordinary condition of temperature and pressure, the matter is classified into the following:
(a)- solids
(b)- liquids
(c)- gases
A substance is said to be solid if it possesses a definite volume and definite shape.
A substance is said to be liquid if it possesses a definite volume but no definite volume.
A substance is said to be gas if it neither possesses a definite volume nor a definite shape.
Chemical classification: Broadly speaking, all kinds of matter may be classified into two types:
a)- Homogeneous
b)- Heterogeneous
A material is said to be homogeneous if it has uniform composition and identical properties throughout.
On the other hand, a material is said to be heterogeneous if it consists of several phases.

Note: We have seen that there are 3 types of states of matter i.e., solid, liquid, and gases. In recent discoveries, the fourth state of matter has been seen. It is called a plasma. It has properties other than three.
