What are the causes of water pollution?

Explanation

Solution

Pollution is the introduction of contamination in the environment. Water pollution is the extreme levels of pollutants or hazards in the water bodies. It is due to throwing waste, agricultural and industrial effluents etc.

Complete answer:
Water is the basic requirement for the survival of living organisms on the planet. Around two thirds is covered with land. Polluted water is unhealthy to everyone. It totally affects the animals, plants, and humans because each one of us is dependent on water. Water pollution is the adverse result of the toxic elements and the contaminated substances which enter the water bodies such as ponds, streams, rivers etc. Water pollution leads to diseases like typhoid, cholera etc.

Causes of water pollution: 1) Marine dumping: If garbage is dumped into the ocean, the oxygen in the water could be depleted. This results in the poor health of marine life. 2) Industrial waste: Industrial waste may be toxic, corrosive or reactive. If not managed properly this waste could pose the dangerous health and environmental consequences. 3) Sewage: is the wastewater that often contains faeces, urine and laundry waste. 4) Household waste: It includes dirt, soap, food, grease and bodily waste down the drain. Sinks, toilets, showers wastage may contains pathogens. 5) Nuclear waste: may come from industrial, medical and scientific processes that uses radioactive materials. 6) Oil pollution: When we pour oil wastage in water the oil forms the thick sludge in water as oil is insoluble in water. 7) Underground storage leakage, pesticide, animal dung are also the causes of water pollution.

Note: There are a lot of things that pollute water like putting anything in water that affect marine life cause water pollution. Planting trees near river banks causes soil erosion which leads to siltation of the water body.
