Question
Question: What are the advantages of Integrated Circuits (IC)....
What are the advantages of Integrated Circuits (IC).
Solution
To answer this question, first explain what integrated circuits are made up of, where is it used and what is the working of Integrated circuits. Integrated circuits are microelectronic circuits or microchips. Integrated circuits, transistors, capacitors and diodes are connected to form a complete compact circuit.
Complete answer:
Let us first define integrated circuits and then enlist their advantages. Integrated circuit is an assembly of electronic components which is fabricated as a single unit. It has some active components such as transistors and diodes and some passive components such as capacitors and resistors.
Advantages of integrated circuits are:
-They can be produced in large quantities which make the cost of production cheaper.
-The circuit build using them is compact sized as integrated circuits are very small in size. Being miniature in size, the power consumption is also very less. Thus, the overall cost reduces to a great extent.
-Integrated circuits are of more importance where transistors are used. The integrated circuit comes with equal transistors as they are produced on the same silicon die and in the same batch. Whereas, in discrete electronics, it is almost impossible to have two equal transistors.
-They can be easily replaced when damaged and they are very reliable.
Note: Apart from the above-mentioned advantages, there are some disadvantages too; Coil, inductors and high-grade p-n-p set ups cannot be built on them. As the IC can handle low power hence operations which require high voltage input or output cannot be performed using integrated circuits.
