What are synthetic fibers? Overview.

Explanation

Solution

Fibers are nothing but threads occupied from plants and animals. Before discussing synthetic fibers let us know about fibers. Fibers are extracted from insects too and then it is woven into yarn to make fabrics and clothes manufacture. Fibers are long- slender structures. Fibers are collected from plants and animals and manufactured into different quality fabrics.

Complete answer:
Fibers are of two types- natural and man-made or synthetic fibers. Natural fibers are extracted from plants and animals or by geographical process. Variety of fibers comes under natural fibers like- vegetable fibers, wood fibers, animal fibers etc. apart from natural fibers there are biological fibers which are present in human body, and also mineral fibers.
Synthetic fibers are none other than man-made fibers- which are being produced artificially by machines. Synthetic fibers are being prepared from materials like-petroleum known as petrochemicals. Fibers contain units like-monomer or polymer. Monomers are single units of fiber and polymers are many repeating units of monomer.
Synthetic fibers are easy to manufacture and there are five types of synthetic fibers- such as polyester, rayon, spandex, acrylic fibers, microfibers etc. they are having different uses like- polyester is being prepared from coal and petroleum. It is used in making fabrics or clothes which are easy to wear, lightweight and feel soft in skin. Rayon is extracted from wood pulp. Rayon is easy to dye in various colors. Rayon is used in the manufacture of a variety of fabrics like-in making bedsheets, carpets etc. rayon is similar to cotton which is a natural fiber.

Note:
As we discussed synthetic fibers, its examples and where it is being used. Natural fibers like- wool, cotton, khadi, tsar silk are fibers which are extracted from animals. Animals being reared are sheep, silkworm and cotton is being extracted from cotton plants. Worms are being fed on mulberry plants and when they accumulate the protein in their cocoon, they are being put into hot water and silk is being extracted from their cocoons.
