And the Akinetes is a thick – walled and enveloped with non – motile dormant. This is a spore-like resting cell which is modified from vegetative cells. The akinete are smaller than the vegetative cells and these cells are obtained by the enlargement of a vegetative cell. These appear thick – walled, having the granular cytoplasm beneath the magnification. And the akinetes do not have the capacity to resist the heat. Normally these are generated in the strings with each cell changes after another and it takes place next to the heterocyst it is present.
