Two insulated charged conducting spheres of radii 20cm and 15cmrespectively and having an equal charge of 10Care connected by a copper wire and then they are separated. Then
Both the spheres will have the same charge of 10C
Surface charge density on the 20cm sphere will be greater than that on the 15cm sphere
Surface charge density on the 15cm sphere will be greater than that on the 20cm sphere
Surface charge density on the two spheres will be equal
Surface charge density on the 15cm sphere will be greater than that on the 20cm sphere
Solution
After redistribution, charges on them will be different, but they will acquire common potential i. e
. kr1Q1=kr2Q2 ⇒ Q2Q1=r2r1
As σ=4πr2Q ⇒ σ2σ1=Q2Q1×r12r22 ⇒ σ2σ1=r1r2 ⇒ σ∝r1
i.e. surface charge density on smaller sphere will be more.
