a(1+r+r2)=38a \left( 1 + r + r ^ { 2 } \right) = 38 …..(ii)

From equation (i) ar=12a r = 12a=12ra = \frac { 12 } { r }

From equation (ii) 12r(1+r+r2)=38\frac { 12 } { r } \left( 1 + r + r ^ { 2 } \right) = 38

on solving r=2/3r = 2 / 3 and a=12×32=18a = \frac { 12 \times 3 } { 2 } = 18
