Question

Physics Question on Motion in a straight line

Three different objects m1,m2m_{1}, m_{2} and m3m_{3} are allowed to fall from rest and from the same point OO along thrce different frictionless paths. The speeds of the three objects, on reaching the ground, will be in the ratio of

A

m1:m2:m3m_{1}: m_{2}: m_{3}

B

1:1:11: 1: 1

C

m1:2m2:3m3m_{1}: 2 m_{2}: 3 m_{3}

D

1m1:1m2:1m3\frac{1}{m_{1}}: \frac{1}{m_{2}}: \frac{1}{m_{3}}

Answer

1:1:11: 1: 1

Explanation

Solution

As the speed of an object, falling freely under gravity, depends only upon its height from which it is allowed to fall and not upon its mass. Since the paths are frictionless and all the objects are falling through the same vertical height, therefore their speeds on reaching the ground must be same. Or ratio of their speeds =1:1:1.= 1 : 1 : 1.
